Bomb Crater

Scattered all over the island are craters made from ordnance explosion. Since the 1940s, Kaho`olawe was a target island for the US military and joint Pacific Rim exercises. This crater is on the hardpan and has a diameter of about 40 feet. The bombing has ended and slowly the island is recovering its vegetative cover. Its going to take a long time, with erosion taking its toll on the island. All interested parties can get involved with the `Ohana's revegetation effort which will help speed the process.
