Sunken War Planes

Visiting places like Palau, it always strikes me as an eye opener when I see remnants of WWII. Growing up in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial was very much a part of everyday life. Although WWII was very much a real thing the direct impact affected my parents generation moreso than it did mine. Beside Pearl Harbor, the only remnants of war was the crashed Japanese plane up at the Aiea Loop trail.

In Palau, a scene of some fierce sea battles, the reminders of war are seen in the waters surrounding the islands. This Japanese aircraft is in shallow waters with its propeller partially above water.

Seeing these sunken aircraft only serves to broaden my understanding of the impact of war and how far reaching WWII was. History books can provide the factual details but seeing these planes in the water was a dose of reality.
